  • What Are Machine Pins?

    It is also known as fastening pins or pin fasteners, used to align or join two components or parts. It is available in two models: quick release and semi-permanent. To install or remove it, an additional tool would be required for semi-permanent and for the immediate release of a spring-loaded mechanism.

    Apart from the stated attributes, it is also available in different materials and sizes, including wood, metal, and plastic. To suit various applications, other designs are also built.     General Categories Of Machine Pins

    These are the general types of machine pins used for industrial and commercial space.

    • Cotter Pins

    It is also referred to as wire clips or cotter pins, used in machine assembly applications to securely fasten the other fasteners, such as slotted nuts and clevis pins, to prevent them from loosening. To install these pins, a pre-drilled hole would be required.

    Split cotter pins are the most commonly designed cotter pins with a flexible tin and a rounded head. The stated attributes make it easier to install and fasten the pe-drilled component. It is also beneficial in locking other fasteners.

    • Dowel Pins

    Dowel pins have a cylindrical shape and are short and straight. It is generally used for aligning the machine component.     Clamping pins, nose pins, cone locator pins, L-pins, T-pins, and drift pins are the subtypes of these pins.

    • Spring Pins

    It is a type of dowel pin that has the characteristics of a headless and cylindrical hollow design. Spring pins are available in two different models- coiled and rolled models. Made with steel or metal material, coiled spring pins are cylindrical as their name suggests. In contrast, rolled pins are rolled into the shape.

    Spring pins are known for their affordability and easy accessibility, as it requires zero to no little preparation before using them. Spring pins have various applications ranging from metal fabrication and electrical connector applications.
